Law 405 International Human Rights Law

The course focuses on the history, development, structure and efficacy of international and regional human rights law. The course examines the abuse of civil and political rights, as well as violations of economic, social and cultural rights within the context of the international and regional human rights systems. In developing a critical understanding of role of human rights in a changing world order, the course assesses the remedies that exist for violations of human rights law in international and regional systems and examine concrete case studies that highlight the synergies and differences present in many human rights debates. This course provides the students with the tools to explore and analyse human rights violations and to consider possible responses from the Council of Europe (CoE) and the European Union (EU) perspectives. Students who successfully pass this course and other courses offered by the Chair are given a Jean-Monnet Certificate by Bilkent University. 3 hours/week, spring semester, taught by Asst.
